Creative Questions -Why do I write?
Words are like the tiny rings in a lake after a pebble skips along it’s surface. Readers will flip haplessly through each page of a flawless looking book without turning back. Creators with words are the makers of our imagination as they lead us through journey’s untold, rival our perceptions, speak of truths, and lure us into dungeons. A writer can not predict an ending to a story as we write it just like we couldn’t predict that writing would be a skill we desire to share.
A story tells us of worlds so vast that we can’t place a finger on a map knowing each tale and where it takes place. The goal of a writer is to ignite the imagination of the reader, bring them into our world, and scream of life as we progress through it.However, a great story will linger in the minds of those who witness it like an overshadowing promise of tomorrow. Our theaters display well written stories using cinematography. Anybody who watches a movie must have a love for storytelling just like a reader must have an appreciation for the smell of a good book, or a musician must have an everlasting love with an instrument. Stories are our power, stories have been told throughout the ages, and stories will never disappear.
I took to pen and paper because like every writer out there I have something to say. I have something beating in the back of my head, yearning to spill out like magic, and to speak of tales that have gone unsaid. I want to form a place where people go and share together the world in words. My pen is one to combat with the demons in my head. The enemies in my story are as much my character’s enemy as my own. I create my villains to have human flaws that make it harder for the reader to see the villain as just a plain villain. I want my worlds to be shared, sprung, spoken about, talked about, and questioned. The best writing is the type that enacts activity, creates promise, and leads to a better understanding of each other.
Writing for me is an escape from the rouge reality we live in. I find it an escape route like many indulge in smoking cigarettes, and drugs. Words will never help when all they do is shower me with a greater pleasure. Creating is not a self hurting activity unless you are drawing with your own blood on your arm. A writer like me is someone who is not just satisfied with the tales woven by other fiction weavers but that I need to pursue the art of creating as well. I want adventure, I want fantasy, I want sad endings, and bitter conversations. Most of all I just want to write. My creative zone has lead me to needing to write like the wind needs to flow, and a ship needs to move. But if you ask me the reason I write is not much different than the reason a doctor saves lives, a firefighter runs into a burning building, a teacher teaches, and a mother gives birth. I write because it is all I know. A writer has no choice but the weave words onto bleeding blank pages because we are not satisfied with life as it is.
