Bad Music and it’s cost
Music is an influencer on our youth. If you play violent lyrical music most kids do not grow up violent as most would suspect. However, If a child listens to an outrageously inappropriate song on the top forty they are more likely to sing the song, or inact. It’s funny but the more popular a bad song is the more attention it gets. By bad I am not talking bad like beat wise but lyrical wise. A lot of songs on the top forty involve sex, drugs, and rock n roll which little eight year olds should know nothing about yet. It’s rather scary.
I take note that the top forty chart tries hard to edit out swears in songs that do have them but it is not the radios job to monitor what children should listen to. I mean I use it to jam out to Disturbed till the break of dawn at age of nine but I never truly understood the lyrics then, and most the lyrics were clean so to speak. But we are guilty of jamming out to horribly lyriced songs as kids. I could list a ton of creatively woven lyrics on pop songs back when I was a kid that weren’t blatantly about sex but insinuated it more than anything.
If you want our society to grow we must look at what lyrics we are spreading out in our music. If our music is all about sex it becomes no wonder our youth is frolicking in the wild with each other. I would like to point out that a lot of top forty songs have catchy beats but vulgar lyrics. So, let’s listen to some of the top forty songs from my era and then compare it to this era’s music. This way we see how truly vulgar our music has evolved into from back then.
If you are like me Alicia Keys just has that voice that resounds in your soul. The lyrics here are so innocent compared to what we found here, and it doesn’t directly talk about sex because the song could be taken as just two people being in a hurt relationship. I’m not one to complain but the top forty back then had some pretty decent talent that still holds ground today because you can find her on The voice coaching new talent.
Then we have this song;
We have uncle kracker who was a pretty decent song lyricist. But then we have nelly who used vulgarity and sex in his lyrics which began to show the transcendence into what I call uncreative lyrics. If a writer can’t write about sex without the word sex in your work you are doing something wrong bro. Most songs back then were written with a clever flow unlike today.
Our number one song this year is drake one dance. Of course, I love this song but if I was eight not so sure this song would be effectively alright to listen to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IIspaicSnY
However, the song is fairly clean compared to most of drake’s song. Actually, a super clean version of it surprisingly. But we also have songs like cake by the ocean. Anyways, I honestly thing just a little more creative music would be nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAzH-YAlFYc
In the end, there really isn’t bad music there is bad lyrics. We listen to songs for their lyrical value and then the beat helps us fall in love with song. Anyways, What bad songs have you guys heard lately? Comment it with the reason why. Thank you.
- Pick a horrible song on the top forty list that gives the wrong impression to society.
