Are we dreamers or stuck in reality?
I know as a writer my imagination is about as wild as a wolf’s ability to chase down it’s prey. I can’t always lock down my playful words, or understand why the world is amusing to me. Have you ever wondered why one conversation with someone can be perceived differently than another? What I perceive this world as and what you do are vastly different which is why when I say Hillary and Donald act like they had bad break up sex on television making our country a laughing stock you might argue that it was actually good. Our human brain will filter the world into the manner where our favorite groups are focused naturally because we want others to enjoy the same groups as us. In other words, the presidential debate is about group mentality more than it is about saving the country we live in today.
I mean if one political party boats that its candidate won the presidential debate over the other the person may have a mind stuck in group mentality. We are the products of the society around us. In fact, we can see this same group mentality worked out when we look at sports team, and how certain people will believe their own team is better than all the other teams. The problem is our society is widely passed on people who identify with a group. For instance, the LBTG group is a wide political issue because they go against church norms but I’d rather say they are a diverse group of fun people.
Another problem we garner from our stuck in reality selves is that we think that there is only one way to see every situation, or only one way out. It’s like being stuck in a cave with only one entrance in. But if you are actively giving your dreamer self time to think you’ll find that the creative aspects of life fall into this category. Artists are considered dreamers. We are never in reality so to speak or that is what people babel about us say. It’s not that we are never in reality like most people claim but that we don’t associate ourselves with groups. What we see of the world is a mystical place that has so much room for growth our brains can’t focus on bland day to day things.
Group mentality is actually a dangerous thought process as our history has presented us multiple reasons why it's awful dating all the way back to the Salem witch trials which is a fitting example due to Halloween being right around the corner. The Salem witch trials happened because people feared witches, and the protestants believed that witches existed when the real reality was that the bread they were eating was poisoned. Plenty of people were killed during this event all because of their strong held belief in evil magic as a group. Their reality seems like a dream to us nowadays because we can’t possibly believe in witches...well until we get that little Hogwarts letter in the mail. When that happens, I’ll be sure to dance like a little kid again.
We can see how destructive it gets again when Nazies start taking out Jews because of Hitler. Honestly, if we live in this society where grouping even in a political stance is happening we are endangering ourselves. I see it as we want to be individualists that don’t fall into a scary future we need to look at all aspects of the world. I don’t want to associate myself with a political party because that is falling into the fray of expectations. Where is the freedom if we can’t choose our future?
Artists try to design the world out of the obscure way we see things. Yes that makes us a group in a way but no artist thinks the same, and no writer writes the same. So, the real question is are we truly dreamers or are we seeing a reality twisted from what most people see?
