Into The Gray
A cry from a song bird as it’s wings get eclipsed by a red hawk,
Disaster is abound as the feeling washes the soul like soap cleanses the body,
Knives are quick, sharp, fast, but sorrow is slow,
It seeps under skin, paralyzing oneself into a box,
The flight of lions has no desire to prove what is right, or wrong,
Just like sorrow has no desire to prove a battle against happiness.
I remember that day as if it was a vibrant nightmare. A stench of wet mud, leaves, animals, and scurrying worms met my nose. His emerald eyes twinkled from flickers of moonlight. Drips of sweat slid down his face. Cold rushes of brisk fall air passed between my fingers.
It wasn’t supposed to go down like that. A corpse rotting from slight crawlers of the night were an eyesore in such a vibrant place. The trees swayed as if trying to tease the sky’s massive endlessness. Creatures flurried about between reds, browns, and dull greens making a rather lively scene . A twinkling shovel rested beside a thick brown oak tree. I tried to wipe away crystalline drops ,but they felt as cold as a lone iceberg in the middle of the ocean.
Daniel was a good kid. A perfect ten on any girl’s list, and my number one bro. His creamy coffee like skin accentuated his lanky tall body with dazzling sapphire eyes like the winter sky that could freeze a woman in her tracks. Heck, he froze me on several occasions.
Aaron’s right pocket had an odd tool glinting out of it like a Rachet with trails of dark liquid glinting from the full moon. His hands reached for it but it slipped to the ground like he forgot what to use it for. He hesitated for a second before grabbing the shovel as he began tossing mud around till the sky changed a multitude of pretty colors, and the sun burned our eyes as dawn approached.
All I could do was sit there frozen as he moved each muscle in reflex to lifting the dirt. My face was starting to feel sticky as drops of crystalline water spread down my cheek. A slight plus to the situation is that my cell service was cut in the woods cause verizon sucks so even if I wanted to call those men in suits who would shackle us with handcuffs I couldn’t.
“ Hey love, can you look for some sticks and rocks to help with the grave.”
“ Why are we building a grave? That’s like saying someone was buried here come shackle me up.” I looked into his cold eyes hoping they would melt me like that morning cup of joe in the midst of winter.
“ We need something for you to mourn babe. He was your childhood crush, I can’t just leave him like this.”
“ Yea, but if someone finds a little memorial we’ll both be cuffed in a jail room faster than a phone can use GPS. “
“ I can always kick the grave.” The faint light from dawn mixed in with the yellow flickering of the flashlight made my scavenger hunt for a rock difficult. I could feel stones under my fingertips but with the continuous pounding in my head I could hardly feel out the size of them. My breath puffed out white air from the brisk morning as I finally grabbed a large gray rock with the thoughts of slamming it into the back of Aaron’s skull for his stupidity, but I withheld the rage like a cat plotting to kill its owner at night. It was our little secret...unless one unlucky camper came upon this area. I wiped my hands on my torn jeans trying to distract my brain from the stench of just starting to rot flesh, and mold.
Flickering orange fluorescent rays lit up Rachel’s cleanly cut front lawn. People dance, spilling liquor, tripping over feet, and laughing over her lavishly decorated porch. A navy seal flag hung off the left pole when entering the porch which showed the status of what her parents were in the navy. A crystal chandelier hung to the left side of her wrap around porch spreading multicolored rays of light around like a disco ball.
Boys tried to cajole a few girls into letting them get their drinks. I cringed at the idea the girls would trust the boys enough to bring an open drink back that may have had a little blue pill that would fizzle within the bottom of the cup. I hardly even let Daniel bring me drinks in class let alone a party. My eyes graced over all the Harlequins, witches, vampires, wonder woman's, batman's, thors, and all the other crazy made costumes that people can think of like a cardboard box with the words “ I am a poptart on it.”
Rachel staggered over to me wrapping her arms around me like I was her own superhero. She smelled like an oozing bottle of vodka that could make me half drunk as well. “ Oh man Alana , the Mary Jane Danny has tonight is so good. You have it to try it.”
“ Where is he?” People staggered out of her front door while others tried to slide inside the house like little snakes. With staggering Rachel in my arms we headed for the giant pool spanning out like a pond with cement rocks placed around it. A couple made out inside the pool, and others were just diving into the water causing sprays of liquid at anyone close enough to the edge. The crowd had yet to take over this scenic spot that reminded me of when we were kids trying to shove Daniel into the pool in midst of winter. His body was like ice when he stepped out of the water that caused him to shiver convulsively. We managed to make him burnt hot coffee afterwards for braving the cold water that wasn’t frozen over yet.
“ I think he said to meet him outside the shed.” Rachel’s right foot twisted causing her to trip as she tried to walk next to me in tight black cowboy boots. I could taste the wafts of alcohol sticking to my nose as if inviting me to be like the rest of the crowd. An odd mixture of pizza and regurgitated food permeated the air. What was she supposed to be for halloween? Certainly not a mix between a cowgirl, and a pirate?
We crunched dead leaves as the party goers dove sloshing water onto the ground making the already tricky ground slippier. A small dark blue cooler from the straying rays of light had its lid lifted by the fellow party goers around us. A clear bottle rested in a corner with its cap still attached. I grabbed the bottle swiftly taking a swig of warm liquid due to ice having melted over time.
“ Remember the time we burned the bible?” Laughter escaped our lips. The night we burned the bible was the same night my feelings got crushed for Daniel. He confessed his love for Rachel that night causing me to shatter every bit of courage inside me.
“ It went up in flames cause we doused it in gasoline. “
“ If only the nazis did that to hitler’s book we would have a totally new history.”
“ Yea, right...I bet some new jerk would of did the same thing. “
“ I would hope not.” Rachel’s feet slid from under her grabbing my thin clothing to try to catch herself. When she managed to restable herself, her fingers intertwined with mine like girlfriends.
We cut over the grassy bush in our way to end up facing an ominus building that looked straight out of a horror movie. The two story building was painted with dark green paint making it look black in the dead of night with stairs that were crumbling to the point they had holes on the side of each step. The roof was only half there due to some natural storms that thundered by over time. Birds nested on wood that use to hold up the roof making them out of sticks, wood, stones, wrappers, and any other objects that could be gathered within the vicinity. Anyone in their right mind would have run thinking it was haunted by ghosts or demons. But we were the only haunts here cursed to be friends.
Rachel dangled from my shoulders using me like a clutch to keep her drunken self from stumbling into a pile of dirt.Daniel had his legs crossed on one of the broken steps wearing a black dracula cape, fangs, and black pants. At least his costume was obvious. A white rolled up piece of paper dangled from his mouth lit up. I’m pretty sure his eyes displayed that he was higher than the moon at the moment.
“ Daniel, Sweetie!” Rachel stumbled over to him nearly tripping over a nonexistent twig on the ground. It’s always hard to walk in the dark with a little liquid courage in the body.
“ Hey Alana , “ He completely ignored her while he sucked in smoke only to release it in swirls right after. “ Come get your hit before it runs out.”
I ripped the paper out of his mouth and touched it to mine tasting a powdery substance, inhaling plumes of swirling air, and breathing it out into fall crisp air. He smelled like a mix of Jasmine, ocean, and slight tastes of weed. Not the usual scent of roses, and fruits that would linger over from Rachel. It was odd. Another woman? He couldn’t be cheating, could he?
“ Daniel we need to reconstruct this shed.” Warm liquid sloshed down the Mary Jane aftertaste in my mouth. “ Maybe, we can make our own little house someday out of it?”
“ With pretty little pictures, not the tiger rug.”
“ No, definitely not the tiger rug.” He wrapped his arms around Rachel acting like normal while small drips of blood trickled down from his fingertips. She plunged her head into his lap as if trying to hide like a cat from a thunderstorm.I couldn’t figure out the feeling of an oddity in the meeting. He succumbed to the beast again, but she hardly cared.
I took another hit off the joint filled with poison trying to give myself the illusion that I didn’t sleep with the king of lions last night, but the flashback was so perfect. His tan arms wrapped around my stomach as he thrusts deep within me. It was a satisfying flashback with no regrets for Amanda who would consider us cheating against her.
“ Did I ever tell you guys about the time I caught my dad red handedly cheating on my father. “ Daniel’s hands were shaking as if the drug was overtaking his entire being. Rachel shook her head as an answer, and I puffed swirling smoke into the air as an response. “ I was five.”
“ Who even remembers when they were five?” Rachel chuckled at her joke.
“ Shush you, “ He patted her head like she was a kitten. “ My father was full on fucking some white broad with big tits. I mean Rachel even you would called her a cow compared to my mother.”
“ Aren’t you being kind of mean to that poor woman?”
“ No, I mean her moans sounded like a lion's roar. I peeked in through the cracks of the shattered window to see him holding her down with all of his might like a grizzly bear. He saw me and like a deer caught in headlights I couldn’t pull my head away.”
“ Is this why your sister is paler than a ghost even though she’s supposed to be a full blown Asian?” Rachel retorted in a drunken haze.
“ Maybe, but dad forced my mouth shut with the threat of a thousand whippings.”
“ I would like a thousand whippings for being a bad girl.” Rachel huffed back. I couldn’t help but wonder if that was why Daniel had saved me all those years back.
I remember my father walking me through a dreaded forest. Oversized trees climbed to touch puffy white powder in the sky. Birds chirped to each alerting the forest of our arrival. Ruffles of leaves could be heard from free running squirrels as they dug up acorns in a fury. My noise picked up a musty damp smell coming from an eerie murky pond which had a drowning almost yearly.
I hated this place. Not just due to the thought of death, but it was entwined with another story which made me shudder at the age of eight. A boy in his teens had taken me back through the forest and closest to the adjoining dark pools of water with lily pads, and dead fish in it. I wasn’t fully developed back then as he dragged me under a large willow tree stripping my tiny green sundress off as if it was natural. We were only playing house he would tell me. Later, the boy would grow up to call me his lovely younger cousin.
It was to no evitable surprise my father would lead me through the same dreaded forest towards that god forsaken shed like a lost pirate to treasure. I could feel an ache in my stomach before his anger even hit. It wasn’t my fault my cousin took advantage of his daughter’s precious body. His fists began pounding against my side, thighs, and face as if my body insulted him like the clerk at the convenience store who had a black eye now. Blood trickled down my cheeks. Mom would just throw it off to the school as someone beat me up like always. She would continue to believe he was perfect.
One of my beatings when I was ten was caught by Danny. He was so mad at the blood running down my face due my eyes that the boy grabbed a large twig from an oak tree and began to swing helplessly at my lanky father. The lashing on my father’s arm proved he wouldn’t lay another finger on someone else’s child. After being witnessed beating me, my father went home to argue like thunder with my mother till she threw him out. It was the last night I saw my father, and a year later we burned the bible in honor of our sins as children.
“ Ha, Ha , a thousand whippings for being the troublemaker in his life. “
“ At least, I’m not whipping you too Alana as much of a turn as that is.”
“ Oh god, I would rather not have a giant bruise there. Leave that for you two.”
“ Not like you haven’t had a bruise there before.” Daniel’s words slipped out as if challenging me to bring up my past. I could see the blood dripping from under his fingers still from a fresh heroine dose. The blood could act as the perfect additive for a halloween costume but I knew better. He wasn’t known for going full out with costumes ever.
“ Don’t bring that up.” I folded my arms like a preppy girls do when they get mad.
“ Why? We both know it’s true.”
“ Danny,” I heaved a sigh of annoyance. “ You don’t need to remind me the debt I am in with you. “ He scuffed a laugh at my words.
“ Come on, We are best friends Alana, “ Rachel snorted in laughter at the start of our bickering. “ It’s not like I’ll ever try collecting that debt.”
“ You two are like siblings. How swueet.” Her words slurred together as she lifted her head only to have it fall back down into his lap.
“ I’ll whip you just right.” Sarcasm dripped from Daniel’s lips tearing me out of my wretched memory, and pulling me back to reality.
Rachel giggled drunkenly ignoring the loud sirens hailing straight for her house. The flashing blue and red fluorescent lights danced into the forest as their vehicles traversed for her home. Their agenda is to break up illegal activities of teenagers dancing like tigers, vomiting on the ground, and fighting.
Plumes of smoke twirled into twists of air as I put out the rolled up Mary Jane Joint. “ I think we are being raided.”
Rachel laughs, and Daniel nodding as he began to look drowsy. These two were certainly not up for the challenge of fighting against arrest. Rather than leap a mile to help the swarm of teenagers leave, I decided to just remain on the shed’s steps. No cops would make it out this far because the shed was not owned by Rachel’s family. Anyone on her property who did not live there would be either escorted out, or arrested.
A percentage of them still chose to run into the woods unable to be caught because they already had a criminal record longer than their absences in class. The cops around here hardly had the fitness skill to chase a bunch of athletic kids through a darkened forest. We were the sticks compared to most towns with doughnut eatings cops. The few teenagers who managed to make into the woods headed back for Rachel’s fortress when the christmas lights fled away passing out wherever there was a space.
Morning came all too soon, and it lulled me into rolling back by taking white sheet to pull them over my face like a cat who covers its face with its paws. Half of the participants from last nights party got arrested spending their afternoon either n bars, or being yelled at by mom. The other half were lying naked on the ground in the woods or had called an uber for a ride home like proper human beings.
Rachel had managed to spew orangish red liquid all over Daniel before being carried from the shed to her room. I managed to make it to her parent’s lavishly decorated room while locking the door before collapsing between their soft dove colored sheets. I tried to roll over again as glaring rays of warm beams sprayed through the red draperies that represented Rachel’s parents love life.
I caught a whiff of old fries, and rotting milk mixing in with the scent of cleaned sheets. My bare feet gently touched the gray carpeted floor nearly sliding me into a lavish dresser. The cause of this disaster belonged to unwelcome substance that started to stain the carpet.
“ Alana,” Knocking from the bedroom door alerted me that there was someone else wide awake in the house. I moved towards the door using my left hand to cover my nose while my eyes began to weep from the stain on the floor. When I flung the door open, my body stepped aside to let the knocker step forth.
“I may have knocked up Rachel.” Daniel looked down onto the gray carpet before his carmel colored fingers began to pinch his nose.
“Are you saying you are beast in bed man?” I tried to shake some of the substance off my toes but it was like turning over a ketchup bottle, and not seeing the liquid come out of the bottle.
“ I was hoping you’d make a joke that her kid would be cat before it came out looking like me. What the hell is that smell?” We both started to gag as the cumbersome smell started to permeate the air like a hidden fart.
“ I think someone got really sick before I entered the room to sleep. I’m surprised the scent didn’t have me blowing out chunks as well.”
“ Before we get into cleaning the rest of the house, let’s grab that vacuum, mop, and clean the mess before it really does stain the expensive carpet.” Daniel went into the walk in closet that rested to the left of us. Within the closet, clothes was perfectly placed, shoes decorated the tiny shelves along the floor, and at the furthest edge of the white castle of clothes there was a huge vacuum cleaner. He took the massive articulately made blue vacuum and wheeled out to the bedroom. “ If they built fridges like they do vacuum cleaners we would never have to open the fridge. “
“ But how many of us would be staring at that fridge like there are far too many buttons on here for my small brain to process.” We chuckled as we figured out where to put the long black cord so that it could flawlessly cover the entire room, and then checking out what button steam cleaned the carpet.
“ I’m starting to think they build vacuums like they build rubix cubes these days.”
“ You mean impossible, and let’s throw it against the wall kind of way?” I pressed another one of the million buttons on it which caused one of the shoots to start sucking up dust on the carpet. “ We found the vacuum button.”
“ I wanna see it vacuum up all your hair.”
“ You want me bald that bad?” I flicked another button on the vacuum to uncover that it was the steam button that wetted the carpet, and then heated it. Daniel high fived me at our uncovery making me remember the one night when in third grade our teacher had to separate us by placing us on the furthest letters of the carpet from each other. The effect was supposed to help us focus but it just made us get creative with our minds. We would through crumpled up papers with messages to each other which would cause us to laugh and get us detention on the same day. The good old days.
“ I don’t want you bald, just with shorter hair. You would like a crazy chick.” The vacuum smoothly ran over the unwelcome stain making the deterring smell of regurgitated food fade away. When I finished steaming the carpet I put on the vacuum making sure that pieces of nonexistent dust, and stomach acid went away. Her parents will never uncover the secret stain from this room.
I pushed Daniel out of her parents bedroom before taking a shower and meeting them downstairs. We used the same complicated vacuum to rid rooms of sex stains, vomit, and other promiscuous scents that could cause Rachel to get grounded for life. I just wished my Lion could've spent the night with me but he was too busy assuaging his lovely girlfriend. Oddly enough, I didn’t feel a moment of jealousy for the girl.
Monday could not come soon enough as Sunday ticked by like the clock at work when no customers buzz through. My alarm clock repeatedly buzzed trying to call my dream self back to an unwelcoming reality of warm rays of sunlight gleaming onto my blue ceiling. I jammed my fingers into my snooze button with such rage that a gunman would be proud. The damned thing stopped shouting at me as I shoved my fluffy dark blue cotton blanket over my head. Can the sun just die today?
I managed to roll out of bed fifteen minutes later than usual with my mother yelling at me that if I acted dead any longer she might just come in and poor the pot of hot coffee on my body. I slunked out of bed grabbing my beige towle, opening my door, and jetting across the hallway to our white bathroom speckled with pink tiles on the floor. I flung the shower door open pushing myself between glass doors with ease, and began my cleaning ritual as a female.
My feet stepped out of the warm shower to feel cold tiles tickling my toes as I wrapped myself in my beige towel before heading back across the hallway for my bedroom. I flicked on my light switch next my door that had a sign hanging on it with the words “ Those who trespass here will be eaten by a death eater.” I thought it was a fitting way to keep my older brother out of my room back when I was ten. I’ve been too lazy to change the sign since.
A clutter of fantasy, literary, and manga novels littered the left corner of my room between the wall, and my desk which showed when I wasn’t doing school work, I was fisting my brain through endless pages of an imaginary world. My laptop rested on my desk with it’s monitor off, and a mouse pad with the picture of a weird fish character from the game League of Legends.
On the walls there were posters with hot Japanese animated characters, and movies like Harry Potter, The Fast and Furious, and Underworld Evolution. The dresser made of hard old red oak wood had stickers from The Lion King, Mulan, Balto, and Lady and the tramp which were stuck there from back when I was eight. I shoved one of the draws open which had an array of victoria secret underwear freshly cleaned. My fingers took a lace dark purple pair, matching it with the same colored bra, and added a T-shirt with a funky phrase on it, and some denim jeans that made me look like the average girl I am.
I raked my cream colored hands through my thick dirt colored hair before deciding a brush could do better. After struggling with my hair for a few minutes, I flew down the hallway, nearly tripping down my stairs, and grabbed a poptart from a box in the kitchen before heading out the door to meet the prison bus. It was habitual for me to take the backseat on it because no wanted to make Rachel mad. She was a drug connect for most of the school at the moment.
A scent of sweat permeated the area forcing me to shove the window down. Fresh air tasted like fall wafted into our stench filled prison. We arrived to prison stepping on freshly cut lawn as an eerie silence waved over the student body. A girl who I barely knew with long curls held her hand to her face in front of a faded bulletin board hanging off a wooden pole with tears streaming down her face. If I recall correctly, her name is Brianna, and she was always following Queen B around like a puppy dog. No one would ever have the balls to insult one of Queen B’s followers which was like sticking your finger into a hot boiling cup of oil.
My feet meandered over to the board with curiosity. Plastered on the board in a flyer were the words;
Date Missing: 10/31/ 2011
Lives in Norwich, CT . Last seen at a Halloween party. Please call 1-855-Amanda or www.helpfindAmanda.com
I blinked twice at the flyer in sheer disbelief. Queen B up and disappeared? This had to be some sort of freak of nature event here. Who else would I shove into the fountain to get wet? Rachel wouldn’t be able to spit in her mouth anymore, what a shame.. I could feel hot stringy pieces of poison slipping down my face. Our friendship in middle school ended badly like flames and ice dueled where the flames won. Daniel had made the mistake of confessing his feelings to Rachel while dating Amanda.
I could recall that night like a vivid nightmare five years ago. On that night, The four of us promised to meet up at the shed which had yet to lose it’s roof. Spring flowers lit up the freshly cut wild grass leading to it, and my nose could smell honeysuckle flowers in the wind breeze. Freckles of fading sunlight lit up the area as the sun slowly descended from the sky. Swirls of white puff passed above casting shadows every so often on the ground from trees.
My small fingers had tiny purple paint on the nails, and my dirtied up toe nails tried to resemble the same as I yanked branch after branch in the forest till I could clearly see the shed. Today, we were going to burn the bible, and make marshmallows. Not your average night out for thirteen year olds. S'mores were Gods food..so it would be ironic we chose to have that over the fire.
Amanda sat on the third step of the shed, in her bright blue sundress allowing her long curled golden locks to caress past her shoulders. Pink sandals adorned her feet, and when she saw me her face was bright with a smile. If only she knew the jealousy I harbored over her man. “Alana ! Do you want some of my strawberry milk?”
“Sure.” I walked over to the shed, stepping up to her as I grabbed the cartoon decorated with a pink cow, and gulped it down. “ You think today will be the day you give him your first kiss?”
“ I don’t know. It has to be right you know. Feel right, and all. I mean you haven’t given away your first kiss yet, have you?”
“ No, God no. It has to be perfect like at a dance, or a ball. Something beautiful, maybe under a full moon.” I allowed the lie to escape my lips like the pouring of rain.
“ A ball would be nice. But I believe in moments.”She wrapped her caramel colored arms around me giving me a kiss on the cheek. “ There, now no man can steal our first kiss.” We laughed together awaiting for the other two fools as time ticked by.
I caught Daniel out of the corner of my eye leaping over a bush to the right of me. He had on ripped blue jeans with a black band shirt with the word “ Disturbed on it.” The shirt complemented his tan coffee like skin, and jet black hair. “ Love, “ He smiled brightly at Amanda when he saw her small feet dangling from the stairs. “ How are you today.”
“ I’m fine.” She laughed unaware of the light smear of lipstick on his lips. He made it to her wrapping his arms around her tightly.
Rachel fumbled into the area grumbling about needing to take her weed wacker with her next time. Her hair was cut short with silver earrings adorning the side of her soft face. A leaf was sticking out of her light brown hair like it just floated there during her walk to the shed. “ What did you do bring the forest with you?”
“ Shut up Amanda. I tripped somehow on the way here. “ Her tan sandal was flipped in a weird direction like she had slammed her foot against a rock, with her arm all scrapped up from branches.
“ You mean you tried to catch a squirrel.” I joked crunching the milk box between my fingers in hidden rage. Rachel had a smear from her light pink lipstick. Did she and Daniel kiss on the way here?
“ Nah, those little creatures are too fast for my feet.” She giggled placing a thin hand on my shoulder.
“ Its sad you both have smeared lipstick.” The dumb blond did not miss a beat. Amanda was on her feet with a fist at the ready. It slammed into Rachel’s cheek knocking her a little back.
“ What the hell is that for? I’m sorry I ate a sandwich on the way here, and it smeared my lipstick. But,” Rachel turned balling her purple nails into a fist and hit Daniel right in the gut. “ WHY DO YOU HAVE LIPSTICK ON YOUR FACE IF IT'S NOT AMANDA’S?”
“ Elena, Help me!” He pleaded looking right at me but I folded my arms in defence of both the girls that were hanging out with me.
“ My hands are tied behind my back my friend.”
“ Why?” He winked at me jokingly as both of them threw their legs out and threw him onto the ground. They barraged him with questions but he kept saying that his sister smeared it on his face which made sense in a way. His sister is a little hellion after all.
Once the burning rays of sunlight were completely hidden on the other side of the Earth, and replaced by fading speckles of silver light, we began our making of a fire,
“ Hey,” A hushed voice whispered in my ear.
“ Nah, Babe the sexy one that rocked your world the other night.” His slick words like loose change made me want to shove fifty cents into his mouth for such a cheap line.
“ Aaron really? Your flipping GIRLFRIEND IS GONE, and you are trying to have your way with me again.” His laughter boomed through the walkway as pedestrians were already whispering words of venom.
“ I didn’t talk to her at all that night.”
What? Did she-cat fight with you about how she won’t quit Alcohol?”
“No. I was just too busy catching up on the load of homework I had over the weekend to help her bomb Rachel’s party.”
“ I didn’t see her at the party either.”
“ Do you think she could've disappeared before then?” His warm fingers wiped the poison from my eyes. I had for a second forgotten that he belonged to Queen B even if she was not here to witness this betrayal.
“ Was she having family issues again?” A slight shiver went down my spine as his lips graced the nape of my neck teasingly.
“Not sure,” A boy with sandy brown hair came waltzing over. “ Hey Cody,” They bumped fists together as the pair scurried off to the side ignoring the panic of the other students.
“ It didn’t take long for the It crowd to find their new hostess of hate.” Rachel pounded her palm against my shoulder as I noticed Eleni trying to order around a group of skimpily dressed cheerleaders.
“ But, Eleni doesn’t have the balls to insult anyone.”
“ I’m sure she’ll threaten me with being a murderer. Let the assumptions fly,”
“ Hopefully, the very idea will scare them off. “ Rachel looked beat her hair a mess, and shoes torn at the toe.
“ What happened to your shoes?”
“ Oh, a dog ate the corner of my toe while I was walking to get the newspaper.” I was not sure if this was some sort of cruel joke, or if she actually ran into a violent dog. Chances were the first not the latter.
The official school bell rang alerting us ants that it was time to get our daily dosage of learning. It sounded kind of sad today for a bell. I sauntered off to my home room which had whispers littering it as I stepped in. My fellow classmates claimed that I must of drove her to the ocean and killed or something outlandish like that. An odd smell of uncleaned clothes, and freshly put on perfume swept the room. . Our teacher was always clean shaven but dressed to kill with a Calvin Klein blue suit. How he managed to survive the spring and summer was beyond me.
On the Television, our school’s daily news started with our female president speaking about the tragedy, and how little the police knew. Any information on Amanda was to be taken right to her. Great..that really makes the student body feel good. The rest of the day went by like a sloth. I kept hearing rumors about me, and having to shut my tongue before I get into a unwelcome fight.
Due to how close I use to be with Amanda, My mom decided to help with the idea of making a vigil for her. Sadly, My mother forgot about the fight I had with Amanda long ago. Her vigil was being held to help find information on her whereabouts later during the week.
If you have made this far this is my re-edit of the first chapter. I am going to post a few songs that you would pretty much find Alana listening to on a daily bases. Thank you for reading, and please like, share, spread the word, and donate. Thank you. ^-^
